2005 Best of Awards - December 2005

Southwest Contractor's 2005 Best Of Awards

Welcome to Southwest Contractor's Best of 2005 awards. An impressive field of entries were judged this year, showcasing the incredible talents of architects, engineers and builders in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.

By Staff

This year our panel of judges, selected from the local construction community, was faced with the challenge of picking the best projects from a record number of submittals. In Arizona, over 225 entries in a variety of categories were received. There were 17 entries in the masonry category alone, and the 37 projects submitted for 'Best Private Project' had to be narrowed down to just two winners!

New Mexico also received a record number of submittals, with well over 100 entries considered. Nevada had just under 50 entries.

Thank you to all of the companies who took time to prepare and submit entries for this year's competition.

Jury selection was based upon industry experience and specialty. We chose representatives from architects, contractors and subcontractors on all juries.

Criteria for Judging

Eligible projects were limited to those that were completed after August 1st, 2004 and were at least 90 percent complete by the end of 2005. Projects were judged on the following criteria:

* Design
* Execution of Construction
* Innovation
* Contribution to the Industry
* Ability to Overcome Challenges
* Overall Excellence

Projects could be submitted in multiple categories. Judges could award a winner in a different category if applicable, or could select no winner if the judges agreed that no project warranted recognition. Ties were allowed if more than one project merited the award.
