A new media center, state-of-the-art science classrooms
and an expanded gym are on tap for Santa Fe High School in
Santa Fe, N.M., with crews from Albuquerque-based HB Construction
eyeing a completion in time for the spring semester
Work on the $6.7 million project started in January, with
crews starting work in the core of the campus, creating the
need for some serious logistical solutions.
"The biggest challenge is just trying to be productive
in an active environment like a high school is with students
and faculty," said Jason Harrington, vice president of
HB Construction. "We are working right in the center
of the campus, but because this is the second phase of construction,
they are getting used to us."
The new construction is really three separate projects with
two different design firms in a joint venture. Albuquerque-based
BPLW Architects led the design on the 22,000-sq.-ft. science
center, while Santa Fe-based Ellis-Browning shared design
work on the 12,000-sq.-ft. library and 5,000-sq.-ft. renovation
of the gymnasium. Work is underway on the library and the
science center, with plans to hold of renovating the gymnasium
early next year.
