Special Report: Green Building

Sustainability Continues Inroads Into all Construction Sectors

Green building is rapidly becoming the norm rather than the exception. The projects and topics profiled in this special report illustrate the variety of opportunities and challenges facing green designers and builders in the Southwest today.

The private-sector bio-tech lab project, Papago Gateway Center, will become one of Arizona’s first LEED core and shell building. The UNLV Greenspun College of Urban Affairs provides a new, large structure planned for LEED gold certification on the Las Vegas campus. The modestly-sized James Learning Center aims to become the first LEED certified project in Prescott, a mid-sized northern Arizona town.

The story on greenwashing introduces some of the pitfalls facing architects and builders in materials selection as green building becomes more of a trend.

Elsewhere on this month’s web content, in the Sporting and Event Centers section, you will find a story on the Santa Fe Civic Center, which is also a major green building project for Santa Fe, N.M.
