Meet the Press
As Southwest Contractor turns 70 this year, new blogs and other website features bridge the reader/writer gap.
By Scott Blair
It’s an exciting time to be a part of the construction industry. Opportunities still abound for savvy builders. This year’s Top 170 Contractors of the Southwest ranking, starting on page 23, shows gains in almost every category for the Southwest’s top builders. Evolving concepts such as green building and BIM are inspiring many in our industry to do great work.
It’s an exciting time to be in publishing too it is changing just as rapidly. After 70 years, the print edition of Southwest Contractor is still going strong. some of our largest issues ever have been produced in the past year. Each issue, we strive to bring our readers even more insightful construction coverage.
At the same time, Southwest Contractor and our sister publications ENR, Architectural Record and the other Regional Publications have embraced the web as a way of expanding our content, to give our readers more options for interaction.
To that end, I would like to encourage you to visit our website, www.southwest.construction.com, where you can find new content daily. Our new blogs and continually updating construction news feeds provide up to the minute content. You can also browse through all of the content found in the magazine that means every word of every issue, going back to 2003.
In addition, you can participate in our user-created Photo Gallery, where we invite you to upload your own photos and renderings of the projects you are working on.
In the coming months I hope to have even more interactive outlets on our website to feature your favorite projects and topics, from videos to slideshows to podcasts. As always, please email me your news items and story suggestions to scott_blair@mcgraw-hill.com.
It is an exciting time, and I hope you’ll continue to join us through our next 70 years of coverage in this ever-changing industry.
