Ed Pastor Justice and Detention Center Tops off

The Santa Cruz County project, located in Nogales, is scheduled for completion in November 2010.

Milestone Reached for Detention Center

General contractor CORE Construction, owner Santa Cruz County and architect DLR Group celebrated the topping off of the new Santa Cruz County Ed Pastor Justice and Detention Center Complex.

The project is located adjacent to the existing County Administration/Courts Facility that sits prominently elevated in the hills of Nogales. Besides new detention facilities and courtrooms, the project also includes site improvements for circulation and parking throughout the 79-acre site including a new connection to Grand Avenue northwest of the site.

Santa Cruz County and the associated jail district are funding the multi-use project via a jail district bond of $44.6 million and general capital improvement funds of $15.2 million. Five new courtrooms, court administration and probation services will be included in the new facility along with adult detention, juvenile detention, the Sheriff’s office and infrastructure to support detention facilities and growth needs over the next 20 years.

The project is scheduled for completion in November 2010.


Interior Work Begins for Muscular Dystrophy Association

Las Vegas-based Colours, Inc. in conjunction with Carpenter Sellers Architects and general contractor Sundt Construction has begun work for the interior design of the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Tucson headquarters at 3300 E. Sunrise Drive.

The office expansion includes research, health care services and MDA venture philanthropy departments encompassing offices, conference rooms and lounge areas. Additionally, Colours will update the existing entry and specify new carpet and interior paint in the existing areas to coordinate with the expansion, making a more cohesive and welcoming space. The design team is utilizing local and natural stone throughout the interiors and exteriors and will make the most of natural lighting to correspond with the architecture of the building.

The project includes 70,000 sq ft of original space and a 15,000-sq-ft expansion. The project is scheduled for completion in January 2010.


Navajo County Health Facility Breaks Ground in Show Low

Construction has begun on the Navajo County Health Service Facility in downtown Show Low. Executive architect [merz]project was retained by the county for the site planning, building renovations/retrofits and the design of a new 10,800-sq-ft County Health Services facility, which doubles as an Emergency Operations Center for the White Mountain Region. Total project cost is estimated at $3 million.

The project, being constructed by UEB Builders, will provide residents of southern Navajo County with a convenient, centrally-located care facility. It is projected to open late summer of 2010.
