DMJM/AECOM to Provide Engineering Services at Spaceport

DMJM/AECOM has been selected to provide professional services for the architectural and engineering programming stage of the Southwest Regional Spaceport project, the world's first purpose-built, commercial spaceport, according to the New Mexico Economic Development Department.

The three finalists were DMJM/AECOM, Merrick & Company, and URS Corporation.

The members of the winning team include: DMJM/AECOM and New Mexico-based design consultants Dekker Perich Sabatini, and Molzen-Corbin & Associates.

The primary work to be accomplished by DMJM/AECOM will be to conduct the programming and engineering work at the Southwest Regional Spaceport, including, but not limited to hangers, control building, support buildings, roads, utilities, launch pads and fuel storage facilities.

DMJM/AECOM has over 40 years of experience in supporting the Air Transportation and Space Travel industries. Some of their most noteworthy projects include: the NASA security improvement program, the Space Shuttle orbiter access and support systems at the Kennedy Space Center and the Atlanta International Airport.

The New Mexico Spaceport project will be conducted in two phases. Phase I will be the programming stage and Phase II will include the full design stage. All work on this project shall integrate building materials and methods that promote environmental quality, economic vitality, and social benefit throughout the construction and operation.

The New Mexico Economic Development Department is currently working with various commercial space operations including Virgin Galactic, Starchaser, UP Aerospace and others, on a program to establish the new Southwest Regional Spaceport at Upham, New Mexico. Creation of the spaceport will provide a key component in the State's efforts to attract space related business to New Mexico.

 


Forest City Covington NM, LLC Purchases
3,000 Acres at Mesa del Sol in Albuquerque

Forest City Covington NM, LLC has purchased 3,000 acres of land from the University of New Mexico, at the Mesa del Sol mixed-use project in Albuquerque.

Forest City Covington NM, LLC is a joint venture between Forest City and Covington NM, LLC. In 2005, Forest City Covington signed a development agreement with university and government officials to develop the 9,000-acre Mesa del Sol site over several decades.

The Company is nearing completion of an 88,000-sq.-ft. research, development and manufacturing facility for Mesa del Sol's first tenant - Advent Solar Inc. With a mix of commercial, residential and mixed-use development, Mesa del Sol could add thousands of jobs and up to 80,000 people to the city's population of nearly 500,000 people.

Forest City Covington has the option to purchase the remaining 6,000 acres of land from the New Mexico State Land Office.
