Plans to Develop 92-acre Kirtland AFB Site

Kirtland Air Force Base along with the Air Force Real Property Agency has chosen Kirtland Development Partners LLC, a partnership comprised of Hunt Development Group of El Paso, Texas, Titan Development of Albuquerque, and Weston Solutions of West Chester, PA., as developer for the Kirtland Technology Park enhanced use lease.

The estimated $390 million project involves the long term ground lease of 92 acres of land located between San Mateo Blvd. and Maxwell St. south of Gibson Blvd. The proposed development includes a diverse mix of class A office, technology and research space, retail, hotel, medical office and senior continuum care facilities. The development plan complements the activity at Kirtland AFB, the adjacent future New Mexico Tech facility and a VA hospital. Additional features include a significant amount of green space in a park-like campus setting with water features, well-lit parking and pedestrian pathways for interconnectivity between on-base and off-base facilities.

Hunt, Titan and Weston are supported with development and asset management by Flintridge Partners of Irvine, Calif., architect Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, contractor Reid and Associates, and engineering firms Bridgers & Paxton and Bohannan Huston.

Washington Group to Construct Uranium-Enrichment Facility

Washington Group International has been awarded a cost-reimbursable, task-order contract by Louisiana Energy Services to provide construction services in the building of the National Enrichment Facility, a uranium-enrichment facility near Eunice, N.M. Providing construction services for the National Enrichment Facility is a major expansion of Washington Group’s role at the site, where the firm has been providing related construction-management services since mid-2006.

The $1.5 billion National Enrichment Facility will provide the United States with an alternative domestic source of enriched uranium required to operate the country’s nuclear power plants. It is the first major nuclear facility to be licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the U.S. in three decades, and in June 2006, LES became the first company ever to be awarded a combined construction and operating license.

Construction activities are under way, and it is estimated there will be more than 600 construction personnel during peak construction. The National Enrichment Facility is scheduled to begin production mid-2009 with all construction completed in 2013.

Washington Group International provides services addressing the full nuclear life cycle including licensing, engineering, design, procurement, construction, startup, maintenance and modification, decommissioning and waste-storage services for nuclear power. Washington Group has provided services to the majority of U.S. nuclear power plants and is the engineer and/or constructor of record for 49 nuclear units worldwide.
