Work Begins on New Henderson Elementary School

CORE Begins New $16.6M School

CORE Construction—Nevada has begun construction of Shirley and Bill Wallin Elementary School at 2303 Canyon Retreat Drive in Henderson.
The Clark County School District contracted CORE for the 75,176-sq-ft, two-story school. Situated on a 10-acre site, Wallin Elementary is composed of four buildings: two classroom buildings, a multi-purpose room and an administrative building. The plan calls for tilt-up walls.
Construction began in July and is scheduled for completion in August 2010. Pugsley Simpson Coulter Architects is the architect of record for the $16.6-million project.
CORE also completed construction on Mark L. Fine Elementary School at 6635 W. Cougar Ave. in Southwest Las Vegas. The Clark County School District contracted CORE for the project. The 68,875-sq-ft, single-story school is situated on 30 acres and includes four blocks of classrooms, a multipurpose room, library, enclosed exterior courtyards and playgrounds. The plan called for reinforced masonry walls with structural steel, single-ply roofing and a central plant for heating and cooling. CORE began construction on the elementary school in September 2008. JMA Architecture Studios is the architect of record for the $18.7-million project.
Pahrump Justice Facility Begins Construction on New Addition

Construction has begun on renovations and additions to the Pahrump Justice Facility at 1520 E. Basin Road in Pahrump, Nev.
Nye County contracted JVC Architects to design the Pahrump Justice Facility’s building upgrades. As well as a 4,000-sq-ft renovation for the district attorney and clerk’s office, JVC is designing three separate additions – 12,000-sq-ft justice court, which includes a lobby, courtrooms and administration office; 5,000-sq-ft sheriff’s office; and 1,400-sq-ft district court. JVC designed the high-security additions to blend into the existing building’s surroundings.
B & H Construction is serving as the general contractor. Construction of the $4.7-million project is scheduled to be complete in spring 2010.
Crystals at CityCenter Achieves LEED Gold
Crystals, the retail and entertainment district at CityCenter, has achieved LEED gold core and shell, the world’s largest retail district to receive that level. Opening this month, Crystals’ achievement marks the fourth gold certification for CityCenter.
Under the rating, USGBC evaluated the entire district with the exception of the tenants’ interior spaces. Highlights include radiant floor cooling, Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood, efficient water fixtures saving up to 1.8 million gallons of water and skylights providing ample natural light.
Crystals’ multi-faceted exterior was designed by Studio Daniel Libeskind and built by Perini Building Co. The interior by David Rockwell and Rockwell Group features abstract hanging gardens.
Sustainability consultants for CityCenter include CTG Energetics, Green Building Services, Viridian Energy & Environmental, Fore Solutions and Simon & Associates.
United’s Office Awarded LEED Gold
United Construction Co. has received LEED gold for their recently completed corporate office located at 5300 Mill St. in Reno. The building includes interior courtyards for daylighting, lighting control systems to reduce energy use and low-VOC products for a healthy work environment. Construction on the 12,350-sq-ft facility began August 2008 and was completed in February.
