Governor Signs Insurance Bill
The New Mexico State legislature recently signed in anti-indemity
legislation that is the first of its kind in the nation.
The new law prohibits broad and intermediate forms of hold
harmless clauses and bans insuring for such indemnification.
However, the law does allow the use of owners and contractors
protective liability insurance and project management protective
liability.
Gov. Bill Richardson signed the bill in April.
N.M. Firms Complete Vegas Job
A trio of New Mexico firms recently completed an upscale hotspot
in Las Vegas, Nev.
A team led by the Las Vegas office of Dekker/Perich/Holmes/Sabatini,
along with Albuquerque-based Workspace Dynamics and Wilger
Enterprises, Inc. finished up the OPM Club in the heart of
Caesars Palace Forum shops.
The $1.7 million project is filled with a contemporary, eclectic
mix of colors, materials, and textiles. Each room is completely
original and innovative, as well as featuring leather lined
walls and cork flooring.
Summit Builders Working on Wal Mart
in Las Cruces
Phoenix-based Summit Builders has been awarded the construction
contract for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Las Cruces, New
Mexico. The new Las Cruces Wal-Mart Supercenter is located
on a 32-acre site at 1550 S. Valley Drive. The 206,500-sq.-ft.
Supercenter will include a grocery store, automotive service
department and garden center. The project also includes unique
offsite construction consisting of two new traffic signal
intersections and modifications to the interstate exit ramp.
Project construction began first quarter 2003 with anticipated
completion early summer 2003. Boice, Raidl, Rhea Architects
Inc. of Merriam, Kan. are serving as project architect.
In total, Summit Builders has constructed five new-construction
Wal-Mart projects and four expansion projects for the Bentonville,
Ark. retailer. n
