$200 M Cheese Plant Planned For Clovis, N.M.

Ireland-based Glanbia Foods is building a $200 million chedder cheese plant in Clovis, N.M.

The company tapped Hailey, Idaho-based Power Engineers and Oakland, Calif.-based E.A. Bonelli & Associates for the design team. Dahlgren Group of Seattle and the Carlisle Group from Minnesota will construct the project.


Sahara to Build Detention Facility

Sahara Inc. recently won the $20.8 million design-build contract to construct the new San Juan County adult detention facility in Aztec, N.M.

Tempe, Ariz.-based Sahara is team with Arrington/Watkins of Phoenix and the Albuquerque office of Wilson and Company.


Design Company Opens New Mexico Office

Flintco Starts Work on Washington Project

The Albuquerque office of Flintco recently started work for The Lummi Nation with the construction on its new, approximately 127,000-sq.-ft. kindergarten through 12th grade school.

The school will serve more than 750 children of the Lummi Nation of Washington State, and is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2004.

When finished, the school complex will include laboratories for computers, science and language, as well as music and choral practice areas, a woodcarving and craft shop, and a cultural dance and music performance stage.

Arctic Slope Consulting Group designed the $21 million project.


NDOT Awards Road Jobs

The New Mexico Department of Transportation recently announced the successful bidders for a variety of road projects throughout the state.

Nielsons Skanska Inc. won the $21 million job on U.S. 84/285 for the construction of 5 mi. of road north of Santa Fe.

In McKinley County, W.W.C. Inc. won the $10 million roadway reconstruction project on I-40, with the firm reconstructing 4.25 mi.

In Socorro County, Kirkland Construction will rehabilitate 12.65 miles of U.S. 380 under a $1.24 million contract.


Uranium Plant Could be Headed to N.M.

Eunice, N.M. could be the new home of a $1.3 billion uranium refinery, if Louisiana Energy Services can obtain a license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The plant would be the first of its kind.

Local politicians such as U.S. Senators Jeff Bingaman, a Silver City Democrat, and Pete Domenici, an Albuquerque Republican, and U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, a Hobbs Republican, as well as all of the adjacent communities, such as Hobbs and Jal, have pledged their support to make the project happen.

Regulatory approval is expected to take approximately three years before the plant could be built in Eunice, which is one mile west of the Texas border.


Works Starts on Development

Construction is underway in Northern New Mexico, with a new residential development taking shape near Angel Fire Ski Resort, 22 miles east of Taos.

The two-phase development calls for construction of 85 individual pads for custom homes, along with site work and the construction of a new road. Site work on the second phase is scheduled to resume this spring.

The development features two- to four-acre home sites with views of nearby mountains, with half of the 1,243-acre development to remain as open space.
