Rio Rancho Plans Arena

Rio Rancho, N.M. may steal the thunder -and the hockey team courted by the city of Albuquerque.

Rio Rancho has plans to construct a new, $41 million arena on Unser Boulevard and Paseo Del Vulcan. The city, as part of the plan, must build access roads from Highways 550 and 528 to the arena.

The proposal could make it difficult for Albuquerque to move forward with its plans of constructing an arena downtown.

The Rio Rancho arena would anchor a proposed $100 million entertainment district that would also include a new, $9 million Rio Rancho city hall. That agreement involves the city and Texas developer Cypress Equities of the Staubach Co. The developer would have up to five years to annex and develop 25 acres a round the arena. The arena is slated to open November 2006

Northern N.M. Project in Preconstruction

The Texas office of Thos. S. Byrne, Ltd. General Contractors is preparing to start construction on the New Mexico State History Museum and Theater in Santa Fe.

Designed by Conron and Woods Architects, the project will feature 100,000 sq. ft. of space that will include galleries, theaters and administration space.
The project, which is being constructed under a negotiated construction management contract, is slated for completion in November 2006.
