Contractors Win Arena Project

Albuquerque's Bradbury Stamm Construction will team with the Dallas office of Hunt Construction Group to build the new Rio Rancho Arena in Rio Rancho, N.M.

A formal groundbreaking took place in June with plans calling for a fall 2006 opening.

The Denver office of architects Sink Combs Bethlefs is designing the 6,500 seat multi purpose arena. Plans are calling for the new arena to be the home of a hockey team.

The $43 million facility will be the centerpoint for the new Rio Rancho City Center, which is also scheduled for occupancy in fall 2006. The city floated a bonder offering of $35 million, which is expected to be repaid by 2026.

Three other teams chased the project: Gerald Martin and Turner Construction: Reid & Associates and Austin Commercial and Hensel Phelps.

The Rio Rancho City Council also received preliminary renderings for a new, four-story 60,000-sq.-ft. city hall designed by Hartman & Majewski Design Group of Albuquerque.

Hospital to Expand, Remodel

Presbyterian Healthcare Services recently purchased six acres of land in Los Lunas, N.M. for the construction of a new 11,500-sq.-ft. family health care center for residents of Valencia County, which is south of Albuquerque.

Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2005 with plans calling for a 2006 completion.

The company is also planning on renovating its urgent care and family care facility in Belen.
