NDOT Awards Huge Contract
The Las Vegas office of Washington Group International Inc.
recently picked up Nevada's second largest transportation
project, the $91.8 million Spaghetti Bowl interchange in Henderson.
The job calls for six lanes of freeway from Interstate 515
to Stephanie Street, the interchange at I-515 and Gibson Road
and an overpass at the railroad tracks.
Construction starts this fall and the project should be completed
in two and a half years.
Company Breaks Ground on Development
The Plise Companies recently broke ground on a new, 135-acre
mixed-use center on St. Rose Parkway. The project will feature
approximately 1.2 million sq. ft. of "big box" distribution
space, 450,000 sq. ft. of light industrial space, 400,000
sq. ft. of flex space and 170,000 sq. ft. of office space.
Phase one is scheduled for completion in October.
Plise Construction will build the $150 million project, which
was designed by Lee Sakara Vedelago and Petsch of Las Vegas.
Plise Construction also plans to break ground on a new office
complex in September.
Massive Warehouse Under Construction
The PENTA Building Group formally launched the first phase
of construction for the 420,000-sq.-ft. Cheyenne Distribution
Center project at 4150 E. Cheyenne, Clark County, Nev. Trammell
Crow, the largest commercial developer in the nation, is developer
of the property, also serving as property manager and joint
leasing agent with Lee & Associates.
According to Ken Alber, vice president of the PENTA Building
Group, the contract amount for phase one of construction is
$8.5 million.
The Cheyenne Distribution Center will feature 30-ft. clear
height as well as a state-of-the-art fire suppression system
to cater to increasingly sophisticated distributors.
German Culture Coming to Vegas
A little bit of German culture is coming to Las Vegas, with
R & O Construction tapped to build a replica of the original
Hofbrauhaus Beer Hall in Munich, Germany.
The 18,000-sq.-ft. replica will seat 426 people. An indoor
beer garden will appear to be an outdoor garden with a painted
sky ceiling. More than 70,000 roof tiles were imported from
Germany to emulate the Hofbrauhaus. Perlman Architects of
Henderson designed the estimated $12 million project, which
is scheduled for completion in the late fall.
Firm Starts Work on Service Center
Clark & Sullivan Constructors recently announced the firm
has broken ground on the new MGM Corporate Services Center
on south Industrial Road. The 22,000-sq.-ft., two-story project
is expected to be completed in November.
The unique design of the structure allows for a future third
floor. WPH Architecture designed the project.
Vegas Engineers Pick up Several Projects
Las Vegas-based Southwest Engineering has been awarded several
engineering and design contracts in the Las Vegas area.
The company picked up the $147,000 contract and a $219,000
contract for engineering design of Centennial Park in Las
Vegas, where the firm is also doing the engineering and design
on the Crossings Business Center. Also in Las Vegas, Southwest
Engineering won the survey contract for Sunset Pines, a 5.16-acre
project.
Soil Tech to Control Dust
Soil-Tech recently announced the Las Vegas-based dust and
erosion control contractor has been awarded the dust control
contract for phase II of the Aliante project in North Las
Vegas.
According to Stanley, Soil-Tech will utilize its Ecco-Tex
Soil Binder for the 300-acre project. Ecco-Tex is an economical
and environmentally safe product for short-term dust control.
Aliante is being developed by North Valley Enterprises, LLC.,
a partnership of America Nevada Co. and Del Webb Communities.
New Library Opens in Reno
The Reno office of WorthGroup architects recently announced
the official opening of the South Valleys Public Library;
the first new county library in over 30 years. This state-of-the-art
public facility is the product of WorthGroup's involvement
as architect-of record in a partnership with Brendle APV,
of Denver, Colo. The multi-purpose property was designed to
attract and retain passersby with notable architecture and
interiors, inspiring elements such as energy and environment
and inviting patrons inside with a playful look.
This unique facility is located in southwest Reno off Mt.
Rose Highway. The $3.7 million library is spread over 16,500
sq. ft. Design commenced in April of 2001 and construction
by West Coast Contractor's of Reno began in June 2002.
Two Vegas Firms Win DB Project
Martin-Harris Construction and JMA Architecture Studios joined
forces in their successful Design-Build bid for the Telecommunication
Building at the Cheyenne Campus of Community College Southern
Nevada.
The $14,734,717 project was awarded by the State Public Works
Board and is the first projects to be constructed in Southern
Nevada under the newly sanctioned Design-Build/State Public
Works program.
