McCarthy Names Howard Preconstruction Director

McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. promoted Jason Howard to preconstruction director for the firm’s Southern Nevada estimating group. Previously, Howard served as senior estimator in McCarthy’s Las Vegas office.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Howard is an active member of numerous professional organizations including the BYU Management Society, USGBC and ASPE. Howard is also active in his church and community serving as troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

Wilfred Beresford, AIA, joined LEO A DALY as regional director of federal programs. He will be responsible for business development throughout the southwest United States, focusing on clients such as the General Services Administration, Department of Defense and other federal agencies. An architect with more than 36 years of design and management experience, Beresford has overseen more than 180 projects with a constructed value of over $800 million.

Beresford entered the private sector following a distinguished 24-year career with the U.S. Navy, where he retired as a Naval Intelligence Officer. He received a Bachelor of Architecture from Kansas State University and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Illinois University.

Renee Schwecke has been named the new manager of the HDR Phoenix office’s new Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Service Center, the seventh such center for the firm.

Schwecke joined HDR in 2003. She is a graduate of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., where she was the first female to earn a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. She also has a master’s degree in civil engineering from Arizona State University.

Norris Design promoted Jason Kuklinski, registered landscape architect, to senior associate. He is a certified commercial irrigation designer through the Irrigation Association, helping him provide clients a more efficient and cost-effective design that meets the planting design water requirements. He is also an EPA WaterSense Partner.

Kuklinski has twelve years of irrigation design and planning experience which includes parks, master planned communities, multi-family housing and commercial properties.

The Southwest region won big at the American Subcontractors Association’s annual awards, held Sept. 20 in Arlington, VA. Carol Floco of ASA of Arizona was honored with its 2009-10 ASA Executive Director of the Year Award. ASA Task Force on Chapter Services Chairman Chip Rohrbach, F. A. Rohrbach Inc., Allentown, Pa., says that Floco “is an outstanding chapter staff member who excels in chapter management.”

ASA of Arizona President Jeff Banker , Banker Insulation Inc., Chandler, Ariz., was named its 2009-10 ASA Chapter President of the Year. The award recognizes Banker’s outstanding leadership abilities, his advocacy work on behalf of ASA of Arizona, and his commitment to providing top-notch education opportunities for Arizona’s construction subcontractors and suppliers.

The ASA of New Mexico was given the ASA Chapter of the Year <100 Members award. Chapter President Denise Mello , Sealant Specialists Inc., Albuquerque, N.M., accepted the award.

Karen Urban, P.E., has joined Gannett Fleming as a senior highway manager in the Highway Practice in the firm’s Phoenix office. She will develop and implement a strategic marketing plan to pursue and win ADOT work, mentor local transportation staff, and direct and manage local transportation projects.

Past work includes the Interstate 10 Project from Prince Road to Ruthrauff Road in Tucson. She holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from the University of Arizona. She is a resident of Phoenix and is a licensed P.E. in the state of Arizona.
