Four to Principal
Having a total of 52 years accumulated experience in the
architecture fields, these four professionals were promoted
at SmithGroup's Phoenix office.
Architects Greg Buchanan, Mark Kranz,
AIA, Craig Passey and Mark Roddy, AIA were all
promoted at the Phoenix offices of SmithGroup. Buchanan is
a senior project architect and architectural discipline leader.
With over 15 years of experience and a diverse background
that incorporates all aspects of the architectural process,
Buchanan manages the technical coordination and project production
within his discipline: supervising staff, ensuring project
coverage and performing technical training. A member of the
AIA, CSI and a LEED accredited professional, Buchanan holds
a bachelor of science in architectural studies, a master of
science in civil engineering and a master of architecture
from the University of Illinois at Urbana.
Kranz is a principal and lead designer for the higher education
and science and technology studios. A native of South Dakota,
Kranz completed his undergraduate work at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln and received a master of architecture from
Arizona State University in 2001. A LEED accredited professional,
Kranz is behind the design visions of a number of LEED certified
projects including the Arizona Biomedical Collaborative. With
nearly a decade in the architectural field, Kranz works regionally
within the desert southwest with institutions of higher education
designing research and instructional facilities that reflect
their specific campus contexts and unique programmatic function.
Passey is a principal and project manager. A member of the
AIA, Passey holds a bachelor of science in design from Arizona
State University. With over 12 years of experience focused
exclusively on the architecture and planning of healing environments,
Passey plays an integral role in the healthcare studio by
developing client relationships and ensuring project delivery
from inception through occupancy.
Roddy is a design principal and the lead designer for the
office workplace studio. A graduate of the University of Arizona
College of Architecture, Roddy received a master of architecture
from UCLA in 1997. His work has been exhibited locally, nationally
and internationally including venues in Romania, New York,
Los Angeles and Scottsdale.
Shirley Howland, Construction
Industry Technician (CIT) and executive assistant for Perini
Building Company, has been elected to the Board of Directors
of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC),
Greater Phoenix Chapter. Howland is the executive assistant
to Perini Building Company's preconstruction executives. Before
joining Perini, Howland worked for Standard Pacific Homes
corporate offices in southern California. Howland has been
with Perini since 2000.
Pacific Concepts recently
hired Erina Mizuno, E.I.,
as project manager. In her new position, Mizuno oversees all
phases of development for commercial, land and residential
projects. She is currently working on The Village at The Cauldron,
Phases I and II. Prior to joining Pacific Concepts, Mizuno
gained experience at the Las Vegas branch of Kimley-Horn and
Associates Inc. Her extensive knowledge of water resources
is a distinct benefit to Pacific Concepts' engineering division.
Mizuno received her bachelor of science degree in civil engineering
from the Oregon Institute of Technology. She is a registered
property manager in the state of California and currently
in the process of obtaining her PE certification in Nevada.
Graeme West has been named
chief estimator for Linthicum. A 15-year veteran of
the construction industry, West previously served as project
manager in the international division for B.L. Harbert International
Construction of Birmingham, Ala. His responsibilities included
both project management and estimating on multi-million dollar
projects located throughout the world. He oversaw the management
for the construction of U.S. Embassy buildings in Uganda,
Ghana and Nigeria. His project portfolio also includes luxury
resort projects in Aruba, commercial and custom residential
projects in the British Virgin Islands and a Class A office
tower and retail superstore in the United Kingdom. At Linthicum,
West will direct estimating and preconstruction activities
for all commercial and residential projects. West earned his
bachelor's of science degree in construction management and
quantity surveying from the Robert Gordon University, Scott
Sutherland School of Architecture & Construction of Aberdeen,
Scotland. He has an accredited affiliation with the Royal
Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
The architectural and engineering firm of Butler, Rosenbury
& Partners has recently opened an office in Glendale,
Arizona. Architect Douglas Jackson,
AIA has been a partner with BR&P for over 17
years and is heading up the Glendale office. "We are
proud to be new residents in the valley and look forward to
building new relationships both personally and professionally.
We have been pleased with the openness of people here and
their willingness to introduce us to others. We hope to bring
the same service oriented mentality that we have built our
firm on to our new clients here," stated Jackson.
BR&P is comprised of over 75 design professionals and
support staff and boasts long term clients such as Bass Pro
Shops and John Q. Hammons Hotels. BR&P is licensed to
practice in over 30 states, and has its home office in Springfield,
Missouri and a branch office in Dong Guan, China. They provide
architecture, structural engineering, interior design and
landscape architecture design services on projects nationwide
specializing in the retail, hospitality, office, healthcare
and civic markets.
Rowland Companies Construction Group announces the
addition of Carlos Guerrero
to their Scottsdale office staff as director of pre-construction
services / project executive. In this role, Guerrero is manager
in-charge of pre-construction services, design management,
estimating, bidding, scheduling and value engineering. Guerrero
has a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Georgia
Institute of Technology, and has spent over 35 years in the
construction industry, managing operations with responsibilities
in both pre-construction and construction. As construction
manager, he managed over $250 million in construction projects
from pre-construction through completion. Guerrero's experience
in the actual performance and supervision of all phases of
construction allow him to lead a team of skilled professionals
in estimating, scheduling and value engineering.
Rowland Companies Construction Group has also hired
Joe Campodall'Orto to
the estimating department in the Scottsdale office. Campodall'Orto
has worked in the construction industry for over 30 years,
is a LEED accredited professional, and has over 15 years experience
implementing green building practices. As senior estimator
for Rowland, Campodall'Orto is responsible for pre-construction
estimating, bidding and value engineering. He currently sits
on the City of Scottsdale's Building Advisory Board of Appeals,
the City of Scottsdale's Environmental Quality Advisory Board
/ Energy Committee, as well as consulting to the Green Building
Advisory Board.
Olsson Associates is expanding its water resource
services with the addition of Gajendra
Shrestha, EIT, in the Phoenix office. Shrestha
has worked on water projects in Texas, Arizona, Louisiana,
Tennessee and Nepal, with such notable clients as Nepal's
Ministry of Development and the Texas Department of Transportation.
His projects include dams, bridges, structural design for
commercial and residential buildings and roadways.
Shrestha is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers
and the Arizona Floodplain Management Association.
Granite Construction Company has hired Josh
Alves as a project engineer for the company's southern
Nevada operations. In his new position, Alves will be responsible
for field support, measuring quantities in the field, work
orders, plan distribution, material orders, submittals, daily
costing, subcontractor coordination, schedule updates, safety,
small job estimating and weekly engineer meetings. Alves earned
a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University
of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is a member
of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Meadow Valley Corporation's construction services subsidiary,
Meadow Valley Contractors Inc., has promoted area managers
Robert W. Bottcher and Robert A.
Terril to the new positions of president, Arizona
area, and president, Nevada area, respectively. Meadow Valley
also announced that chief operating officer Alan Terril, 66
years old, has retired as planned, effective April 20. Robert
Bottcher, 50 years old, joined Meadow Valley in 1995 and was
named Arizona area manager in August of that year. Bottcher
has more than 26 years of experience in the heavy civil construction
industry. He has a bachelor's degree in construction management
from Arizona State University.
Robert Terril, 48 years old, joined the company in 1996 as
Utah area manager, and was named Nevada area manager in 2001.
His experience spans nearly 30 years in the heavy construction
industry. He attended Dixie College and Brigham Young University.
