Granite Promotes Several at Nevada Operations

Granite names new construction managers and a chief estimator, all of whom were promoted from within.

Several team members of Granite’s Nevada Operations have recently been promoted. Kyle Larkin has been named manager of construction, Paul Harding has been named chief estimator, Derek Betts has been named construction manager with an emphasis in public works, and Sean Carnahan has been named construction manager with an emphasis in the private market.

Larkin has been with the company since 1996, most recently working as chief estimator. Larkin will coordinate and supervise project planning, scheduling, budgeting and implementation. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a bachelor of science in construction management.

Harding has been with the company for more than seven years, most recently working as project manager. Harding will manage bid staffing, ensure all bid forms and proposals are properly prepared and provide technical assistance to department personnel. He graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor of science in construction management.

Betts has been with Granite since 1995, most recently serving as the public works manager. Betts will continue to assist in public works, set project goals and deadlines, coordinate staffing, outline project plans and evaluate performance. Betts graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor of science in construction engineering management.

Carnahan has been with Granite since 1993, most recently serving as private works manager. He will continue to work within the private market leading project teams in solving complex design, construction and operations issues. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a bachelor of science in construction management.

WPH Architecture, Inc. has promoted Tony Beavers as an associate of the firm.

Beavers joined WPH Architecture in 2005 as project manager and has over 15 years of experience in architectural practice. At WPH his responsibilities include the project management and leadership of mixed-use high rise and mid-rise projects, retail developments and office buildings. Beavers promotion was influenced by his significant role as project manager for various mixed-use high rise projects in Las Vegas and his ability to coordinate consultants, clients and production staff.


Nora Calato, McCarthy’s Southwest Region training manager will serve as the 2008 president of Arizona’s chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

A resident of Tempe, Ariz., Calato assumes the leadership of the organization following a transition of the Arizona Chapter into three fully functional branches, designed to better serve the regional needs in Arizona. The new Northern, Southern, and Central Arizona branches will focus on education and building awareness about the LEED rating system for measuring sustainable buildings and building practices, while the Chapter board will further statewide advocacy efforts.

PLISE Development & Construction LLC, has appointed Stacie Truesdell to associate general counsel. In her new role, Truesdell assists on all government affairs related matters before local, state and federal governmental bodies.

Prior to joining PLISE, Truesdell was a member of the government affairs practice group for Jones Vargas.

While attending law school, Truesdell was the symposia editor of the New York Law School Law Review and was an intern with New York Supreme Court Justice Michael Corriero. She also participated in New York Law School’s Employment Law Clinic. Truesdell holds a Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude, from New York Law School and a bachelor’s degree in art and government & law, from Lafayette College. She is admitted to practice before the state courts of Nevada and is a member of the Clark County and American Bar Associations.

Opus West Corp. has named Greg Wattson vice president of retail development for the firm’s six-state western region. In his new role, Wattson will oversee all retail development opportunities in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Utah, and coordinate with Minnesota-based parent company Opus Corporation on national retail development strategy.

Wattson will also pursue new retail development opportunities throughout Southern California in addition to overseeing existing retail projects in the area.

Wattson brings 20 years of experience in retail development to his new position. Most recently, he was senior vice president of retail for Trammel Crow, where he was responsible for retail development activities in the western United States. His background also includes 18 years at Wattson Brevast, where he developed and re-positioned retail projects throughout the west coast.

Territory Incorporated has appointed Danielle Caprio to leasing and marketing specialist. In her position, Caprio is responsible for the marketing and leasing of Territory’s properties. Caprio brings more than 13 years of experience in sales, management and the development of real estate assets. Prior to joining Territory, she was responsible for leasing more than 1.2 million sq ft of commercial real estate and managed a portfolio of assets across Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Texas and Utah. Caprio also managed a portfolio of 726,000 sq ft of Class A, B and C commercial office, retail and residential properties in Illinois, Nevada and Utah as well as capital and tenant improvement projects of up to $4 million. Caprio is certified in the areas of facilities management administration and real property administration.

The Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) has named Thomas F. Mathews as their director of certification programs and construction technologies.

In this role, Mathews is responsible for the management, marketing and promotion of plant and field certification programs and will also serve as a technical resource related to field practices, components and materials. He has specialized expertise in concrete reinforcement installation, post-tensioned concrete construction as well as training methods.

Mathews recently served as the vice president of sales and marketing for SURE-LOCK Inc. Other prior experience includes marketing director - PC Strand for Universal Products Group, Inc./Cables as well as a variety of other positions in the industry including system suppliers such as Dywidag-Systems International and roles as an ironworker, field manager, plant manager, sales manager and director. With a bachelor of arts from The University of Texas, he has been a member of PTI since 1987.

The PENTA Building Group promoted Michaella Rooney to the position of assistant project manager. Rooney has been with PENTA since 2006, most recently working as a project engineer. In her new role, she will assist the project manager in completing contract documents, coordinating subcontractors, reviewing contract changes and ensuring that all costs, scheduling and quality standards are met. Rooney graduated with a bachelor of science in economics from Brown University and has worked in the construction industry for the past six years.
