Moran Architects has named Matthew Hake and Chris Ilg associate principals in the firm and Doug McCord to principal. McCord was named principal of the firm. For over three years, he has been an integral part of the growth and management of the firm. Specializing in green architecture, McCord is committed to designing buildings that are healthy for their occupants and environmentally responsible. He is currently the USGBC’s LEED for Schools advocate for the state.
McCord currently teaches architectural design at Arizona State University, where he obtained his masters of architecture. He also holds a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M.
With over 13 years experience in architecture, Matthew Hake brings a common-sense approach to integrating sustainable principles with thoughtful and budget-sensitive architecture. His responsibilities include integration and implementation of energy efficient, sustainable designs on local and international projects.
Christopher Ilg is a sustainable architect with over six years experience. Ilg brings his knowledge of green architecture and his familiarity with a variety of project types including civic, commercial, educational and residential to the firm. He leads the charge in multifamily housing design in the firm, and manages projects from preliminary concepts to completion and post-occupancy.
Kevin Bries has been promoted from corporate administrator of Marco Crane & Rigging Co. to vice president of Mardian Equipment Co. (a partner company of Marco Crane & Rigging Co.). Bries has been with Marco Crane & Rigging Co. since November 2002, in which he was hired as an IT manager. Formerly Bries was the director of professional services at ACCPAC International. He graduated from Truman State University with a bachelors of science degree in accounting.
Burke and Associates General Contractors has promoted Jennifer Desruisseaux to project manager. Desruisseaux began her career at Burke as a project engineer and was subsequently promoted to senior project engineer and assistant project manager. Prior to her employment at Burke, she was with KGA Architecture for four years. Desruisseaux received her bachelor’s of science degree in construction engineering management from the University of Nevada.
Burke and Associates also promoted Rich Redlew to senior project superintendent. Redlew began his career at Burke as a field superintendent. He attended San Jose State majoring in field supervision and project management.
John Travassos was promoted to senior project manager. Travassos began his career at Burke as a project manager. Prior to his employment at Burke, he was with Vertec Corporation in Massachusetts and has been involved in construction management for over 29 years.
Lastly, Burke and Associates has promoted Travis Schultz to senior project engineer. Schultz began his career at Burke as a project engineer. Prior to his employment at Burke, Schultz was with Warren Construction in Missouri. Travis received a bachelor’s of architecture degree with a emphasis in construction management from the University of Kansas.
The Korte Company has hired Isaac Turley to its Las Vegas special services staff. Turley has over eight years of construction experience in various capacities. His duties will include the review and analysis of completed projects, warranties and customer service issues.
Denise Hart joins Vestar as the vice president of marketing, and will oversee the public relations, advertising, promotions and sponsorship activities for the company’s retail destinations, including both properties Vestar owns and those it manages. She boasts more than 20 years experience in retail, tourism and sponsorships.
She was most recently the director of marketing for Arizona Mills, where she directed advertising and promotional activities for the super regional shopping destination. Previously she held posts with Nike, Marriott and Host Communications in Oregon, Texas and Arizona. She also serves as the incoming chair for the Tempe Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors.
Opus West Corp. has promoted Jason Meszaros to the position of director, real estate development in the company’s Phoenix headquarters office. In his new position, Meszaros will play a more active role in pursuing and conceptualizing new opportunities, as well as executing committed development projects in the Phoenix market. Since joining Opus West in 2006 as a senior manager, Meszaros has assisted in the leasing of existing projects and development of new projects. Meszaros has 11 years of industry experience, including employment as vice president with Hewson Development Corporation. He is a member of NAIOP and ULI.
Gloria J. Lowrie, president/owner of PACE Pacific Corporation, was recognized and awarded the First American Entrepreneurship Award from the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. Lowrie was acknowledged as an American Indian business owner that demonstrated outstanding leadership within the American Indian Community.
George W. Glendenning joins Harris & Associates with an extensive and successful track record in the sales and marketing of engineering, architectural, planning, surveying and construction services in the Nevada area. As regional business development manager, Glendenning will have the primary responsibilities of client development / client services and project management throughout the state. His scope will include all types of infrastructure for the public sector. He holds a master of business administration degree from the University of Nevada and a bachelor of aviation management degree from Auburn University.
Desert Viking Companies appointed Marc J. Golan as the chief financial officer for its group of 12 operating companies. Golan assumes his new post from Wells Fargo Bank where he was the vice president of middle market real estate in Phoenix and Las Vegas. Preceding his Wells Fargo Bank employment, Golan was a commercial loan officer and commercial credit analyst for LaSalle Bank, headquartered in Chicago. Working with commercial and residential developers, Golan negotiated loan terms, managed portfolio credit quality and identified high-risk solutions. Golan also holds a finance degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich.
PSI promoted Sean Mayfield to branch manager of their Phoenix operations office. Mayfield has been with PSI since July 2005 and is ATTI, Troxler Radiation Safety Officer and PTI Level I and II certified.
Adolfson & Peterson Construction has promoted Gary Strange to direct field operations for the southwest region. Strange has been with A&P for over three years as a superintendent. He brings over 30 years of construction experience, client development skills and the overall leadership skills necessary for the position. As director of field operations, Strange will be responsible for all hiring, training, development and management of superintendents and all other field personnel in the southwest region.
The Phoenix Community Alliance has appointed Martin Shultz as the successor of nine-year PCA chairman Jerry Colangelo, and has also elected Mike Ebert as vice chair.
Shultz, vice president of government affairs for Pinnacle West Capital Corp., has served as vice chairman of PCA since 2001. He was a founding member with Colangelo when the alliance was formed. He has since remained dedicated and active, participating on the transportation and bioscience committees, and acting as chairman of PCA’s capitol mall committee and vice chairman of the executive committee. Shultz also led the development of Phoenix’s Human Services Campus, a cornerstone in a county-wide effort to alleviate homelessness. Shultz previously served as chief of staff to three Phoenix mayors.
Mike Ebert, a managing partner of RED Development, LLC, has led the development of numerous retail centers throughout the Midwest and Southwest including the notable CityScape project in Downtown Phoenix, which at $900 million is the largest private investment project in the history of downtown Phoenix.
Other projects currently under Ebert’s direction include Paseo Lindo, a 300,000-sq-ft community in Chandler, and Prasada, a 2 million-sq-ft master-planned community in Surprise.
In addition to his accomplishments at RED, Ebert was also one of the founding partners of RED Realty Advisors LLC, which focuses on commercial real estate brokerage throughout the Southwest and shopping center development, primarily in the metro Phoenix area.
Ebert joins Mo Stein , president, HKS/The Stein Cox Group, who also serves as a vice chair.
SmithGroup has hired Sommer Caraway as public relations coordinator for its Phoenix office. Caraway previously directed the marketing/communications efforts at Hunt & Caraway Architects, Ltd., located in Glendale. She has three years of experience in the architecture/engineering/construction industry. At SmithGroup, Caraway will coordinate the firm’s media efforts, public communication and sponsorships.
Caraway is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and serves on the media committee at SMPS. She earned a B.A. in communication studies from Arizona State University with emphasis in public relations.
